Liverpool give up on signing the young Barcelona midfielder Gavi
The 17-year-old is out of contract in 2023 but they expect him to renew at Camp Nou
The Gavi saga is close to an end. This week a final meeting is planned with Barcelona and an agreement over a contract renewal is expected to follow.
Therefore, Premier League side Liverpool have given up on the young midfielder. The Reds have been following the situation and would have paid his €50 million release clause if there was a chance of signing him.
However, with his renewal with Barça, he will join the growing list of players at Barça with a €1 billion clause, Pedri, Ansu Fati, Araujo and Ferran Torres.
Liverpool have decided not to press for the Spain international more and consider the case closed. The clash between Joan Laporta and Gavi's camp had given them hope but things were quickly sorted.
Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips could become a Liverpool target in Gavi's place, with Manchester City also keen on the England midfielder.
