Lionel Messi's grandfather Antonio Cuccittini passes away
The 89-year-old died in Argentina on Wednesday
Local media in the country confirmed the news on Saturday
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi’s maternal grandfather passed away earlier this week in Agentina, local media confirmed on Saturday.
Antonio Cuccittini, who was 89, passed away in Rosatio on Wednesday.
Cuccittini, Messi’s mother’s father, was known in Argentina for his criticism of his grandson’s performances with his national team.
He had been living alone for a number of years since the death of is partner, Celia, a number of years ago.
Celia passed away in 1998 and everyone of Messi’s goals is dedicated to her when he points to the sky.
Messi responded to the news by producing one his best performances of the season, scoring two and running the show as Barca beat Girona 6-1 on Saturday.
