Lionel Messi hoping to win The Best in Milan
Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo are his rivals for the prize
Barcelona star Lionel Messi, Juventus's Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk are the three players who could win FIFA's The Best award on Monday at a gala in the Scala theatre in Milan.
The Italian city, taking over this year from London as the venue, will also see the best female player, mens and womens coaches chosen.
Van Dijk is the favourite after he won the Champions League with Liverpool last season.
Messi could also win given his 51 goals in 50 games and La Liga title with Barcelona.
Cristiano, meanwhile, won Serie A and the italian Supr Cup, scoring 28 goals.
