Lionel Messi has still not received an offer from Barcelona to extend contract

President Laporta knows the result of an internal audit before tabling a proposal

Lionel Messi has still not received an offer from FC Barcelona to renew his contract. New president Joan Laporta has insisted on a number of occasions that he wants the forward to end his career a Camp Nou, but he first wants to learn how bad the club's financial situation is firs hand.

SPORT have learned that that the renewal offer will be made once Laporta knows the result of an internal audit, which is still being carried out at the moment. It will be then when Laporta will know what he can offer Messi financially to be able to convince him that staying at Barça is the best option.

On Friday, RAC1 reported that a first offer had already been made. The report said Messi's wage would be cut but that it would increase in the coming years as the club recovers from the financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

For now, that offer doesn't exist, though, and Laporta is still working on it. And also on the sporting project. Laporta knows that Messi needs to be sold on the fact that Barça can return to competing at the very top level sooner than later. And by sooner, that means next season.
