The Brazilian hopes to be reunited with his old teammate next season

Lionel Messi's future is still one of the recurring themes in football at the moment. According to the French newspaper L'Equipe, Neymar is insisting the Argentine joins him at Paris Saint-Germain, telling him the advantages of living in Paris and playing for the Ligue 1 champions. L'Equipe revealed a few weeks ago that the Brazilian has phoned Messi to try and convince him.

In December, Neymar said that "what I want the most is to play with Messi again. Where would he play? It's not a problem, he could even play in my position. We should try and make it happen next season." The fact they have maintained a good relationship through the years and have played together before could be an attraction for Messi. However, the Argentine hasn't wanted to say anything about his future in public.

Even though PSG want to sign Messi, they will first focus on retaining their two star players, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, who are both out of contract in 2022, before trying to bring in the Barça captain.

Meanwhile, Messi's compatriots at PSG, Leandro Paredes and Angel Di Maria, have both said there's a big chance Messi makes the move to Paris. The comments were made before the first leg of the Champions League meeting between the two teams, which PSG won 4-1. The second leg takes place on Wednesday in Paris, with Neymar still injured and unable to face his former side.
