The outgoing Argentina captain will give his version of events in today's press conference

Even Leo Messi's most loyal supporters are asking to hear his version of events. A standard farewell speech, after so many years at the club, in which so much was achieved, will not be enough. The Argentina captain is due to address the media at 12pm on Sunday, in what will be his first public address since the club announced he would not be signing a new contract.

For years now, the player has offered his personal opinions via his social media channels or by granting one-off interviews. This time, however, having requested permission from the club to use its facilities, he will address the media directly in a press conference.

His whole career at Barça

After 20 years at Barça, with 17 in the first team, Messi is set to bid farewell to the club of his life. He will have the opportunity to give his version of events, following days of rumours about what happened during the negotiations with the club and where he will move to next.

While tensions between the two parties have been high in recent weeks, Messi is expected to adopt the same tone that Laporta used in Friday's press conference, in which he spoke well of Messi and his father Jorge at all times. It is unlikely, therefore, that the Argentina forward will point the finger at Laporta as one of the reasons for his departure.

Messi is expected to insist that his first choice was to remain at Barcelona, and will talk about how difficult the last few days have been for him and his family.
