Leo Messi is already back in Barcelona and could even train this afternoon
The Argentina superstar landed in the city this morning and might even train with the squad later on today
Leo Messi is already back in Barcelona ready to begin preseason training at the club. The captain arrived in the early hours after a short stay in Ibiza with close friends.
Despite only landing in Spain a few hours ago, Messi could join in this afternoon's training session at the Ciudad Deportiva Joan Gamper. It's unlikely Leo will play any part in the Gamper Trophy match against Arsenal tomorrow but he is expected to attend.
The Argentine, alongside Philippe Coutinho and Arturo Vidal, were given permission to rest until the 4th August after all three were involved in the Copa America.
Once back at the club, Messi is expected to undergo the medical and fitness tests like anybody else. Barça fly out to the United States on Monday for two further preseason friendlies.
SANCTION AND BAN
Messi recently found out he'd been hit with a fine and a three-month ban by CONMEBOL for his comments on the standard of officiating at the Copa America. If that ban remains in place, Messi would miss the three friendlies against Chile, México and Germany. He'd be available again for the World Cup qualifiers in March 2020.
The AFA and Messi have seven days to lodge an appeal.
