The La Liga club can't turn to the market if Barcelona pay the Dane's release clause

The possible signing of Martin Braithwaite for FC Barcelona would leave Leganes in a tricky situation, unable to turn to the market to sign a replacement.

As SPORT revealed, Barça are ready to pay the Danish striker's 18 million euro release clause after being given permission to make a signing outside of the transfer window.

Braithwaite, 28, would arrive on a three-and-a-half-year deal as a replacement for the injured Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez.

The deal has been given the green light by La Liga's medical experts after they analysed the severity of Dembele's injury and gave Barça until March 6 to make a signing.

However, Leganes would not be afforded the same graces if they lose Braithwaite, who they paid five million euros for last summer after a successful loan spell.

The rules in Spanish football give leeway to clubs who suffer long term injuries outside of the transfer window but not to clubs who lose players to the subsequent transfers.
