A video did the rounds on social media on Sunday of Laporta posing for a photo

New Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke about a video which did the rounds on social media during Sunday's election.

A clip went viral of Laporta posing for a photograph with a girl and then saying afterwards "when you turn 18, call me."

It has since been revealed that the clip was taken out of context, the girl was 30, not underage, and Laporta was replying to her aunty's request, in a jokey manner, for a job.

"On International Women's Day, do one has to explain gender equality to me," Laporta told Catalunya Radio. "The video with the girl, taken out of context, seems like something else."

The viral video caused such a stir on social media on Sunday that a member of Laporta's team, Maria Elena Fort, explained that a woman has asked Laporta for a "photo with her 'nena'" and asked for a job after. "Jan (Laporta) said he'd call when she was 18."

The woman in the photograph also took to Twitter to explain the misunderstanding: "I'm the girl in the video with Joan Laporta. The 'nena' is 30 years old. He was making a joke because she always says 'nena' to me and had asked for a photo with the 'nena.' Visca el Barça!"
