The veteran defensive midfielder is out of contract in the summer

Barcelona president Joan Laporta said on Thursday that there are discussions at the club over who should replace Sergio Busquets when he leaves. The Spaniard's deal expires in the summer.

"The coach proposes players he thinks are best to reinforce the team with, the technical team study the viability of the signings and proposes other names, and in the end the club decides," said Laporta.

Ruben Neves of Woles has been mentioned, Xavi likes Martin Zubimendi at Real Sociedad, and Johan Cruyff the sporting director likes Chelsea's N'Golo Kante.

On Neves, Laporta said: "He's a great player, but this is part of private conversations. Busquets will not be eternal and there are internal discussions about finding a strong substitute. Frenkie de Jong can play in that position but one player is not enough. Xavi will end up deciding."
