Laporta-Messi meeting was terminated due to Barça's financial issues

| sport

The meeting was cut short after the club informed Jorge Messi that they would struggle to register him for next season's campaign

This week, FC Barcelona received news of a league-wide cash injection from investment fund CVC that would, in theory, allow them to register Leo Messi as a Barcelona player without breaching the salary restrictions imposed by LaLiga.

However, it seems that this financial life raft hasn't been enough for Barça to register the player with the Spanish league. Joan Laporta communicated this disappointing news to Jorge Messi in yesterday's meeting.

Barça has its doubts over when, or if, the money will arrive, so they cannot count on it when balancing the books for the upcoming season. In fact, Real Madrid has already communicated its opposition to the agreement between LaLiga and CVC.

Upon receiving the news, Jorge Messi terminated the meeting. Despite Leo's willingness to reduce his salary by nearly 70% for the upcoming season, it became apparent that even this would not be enough.
