Laporta: I am convinced that Messi will renew his Barça contract
The Barcelona president spoke after Saturday's Copa del Rey triumph in Seville
Joan Laporta was happy after the Copa del Rey final success against Athletic Club as Barcelona won silverware just over a month after he was re-elected as president.
"We really wanted to get back to winning things," he said. "The players needed this victory and I am delighted for them, and also for the coaching staff and the fans. This is the first cup of I hope many."
Laporta also spoke about Lionel Messi's future after the Argentine scored twice in the 4-0 win at La Cartuja, with Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann also on target.
"Leo is the best player in the world, a player that loves Barça," he said. "I am convinced that he wants to stay and we will do everything in our hands to keep him here. That's what we want."
On coach Ronald Koeman and his coaching staff's future, he was more cautious: "They're doing very well. I am very happy for them."
