Koeman's first Barça XI: 4-2-3-1 with Messi leading the attack
The Dutch coach has chosen Busquets and De Jong as his double pivot
LaLiga 2020-21 kicks off Barcelona in the third week of the season (they sat out the first two weeks due to Champions League involvement in August). It begins at Camp Nou against Villarreal. It's the start of the Ronald Koeman era.
After a month of speculation and drama off the pitch, since the loss to Bayern Munich, the new/old Barça face a tricky start to the season, with Luis Suarez gone and a vote of no confidence against the president.
However, they also play football. Koeman's had to build a team with none of his own signings (Pjanic was already signed, as were Trincao and Pedri) so his first XI is a familiar one.
The Dutch coach has opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation with Neto in goal as Ter Stegen is injured. The back four is made up of Sergi Roberto, Piqué, Lenglet and Jordi Alba.
With Pjanic still not match fit, De Jong and Busquets are in midfield, with a felxible front four of Messi, Coutinho, Griezmann and Ansu Fati.
