Koeman on the European Super League: I want what is best for Barça

The Dutch coach did not want to say too much about the project on Wednesday

Ronald Koeman spoke in a press conference on Wednesday ahead of Thursday's league game against Getafe but the main focus was on the European Super League.

The Barcelona coach was asked about what he had been told by president Joan Laporta but preferred to not say too much on the issue.

He said: "I spoke with the president [Joan Laporta] yesterday and he explained the club's position. But a lot has changed since then. It's best not to say much now, no one knows what will happen. There were teams that were in; now they say they don't want to be... What I want most is the best for this club."

After that answer, Koeman said he "won't respond to any more questions on the Super League," although he did give some more answers.

He even said that he agreed with a tweet published by Gerard Pique on Tuesday. "Football is for the fans, today more than ever," the Barça defender posted.

With Barça's silence on the project, Koeman was asked if he felt like the unofficial spokesman -- and not for the first time.

"I'm not the club's spokesperson, that is the president," he added. "It is normal that you ask me about this, but there is so much going on that it is better to wait and see how it ends up. If anyone should speak, it is the president, not me."
