The coach plans to build the side around the Argentine No10

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman says he plans to meet with Lionel Messi to ensure the Argentine remains at Camp Nou.

"I don't know if I have to convince Messi to stay or not," he said at his presentation. "He still has a year on his deal. He's the best player in the world and you always want him on your team, not the opposition."

On the same line, the Dutchman highlighted the level of Messi's performances for the club and reiterated his desire for him to stay.

"I would love to work with Messi because he wins games," he added. "If he has his usual performances, I will be delighted if he wants to stay.

"But he also has one year on his contract, so he is a Barcelona player. From there, we have to talk to him. I hope he continues here for more years."

Asked what he would say in his meeting with Messi, Koeman said "that will remain private."

The new Barça boss wasn't as forthcoming on Luis Suarez, saying he would not talk about individuals, with captain Messi being the only exception.
