Koeman: "I spoke with De Ligt about his future.. but it's a secret"

The Dutch head coach said he is willing to help the defender decide as it's important he picks the right team

The coach of Holland's national team, Ronald Koeman, has spoken about De Ligt's future ahead of he Nations League semi-final against England.

"He's only 19 years old and he needs to make the right decision. He needs to choose wisely as he continues to develop. He plays as if he has the experience of a 25-year-old. It was great to see him play in the Champions League and he proved himself on the biggest stage. That helped him grow."

Koeman believes De Ligt still has plenty of potential and the sky's the limit. "He could improve, of course, but he's already a great player and he'll be even better in a few years time. We've going to help him choose a great club because that's what he deserves." The coach admitted he had spoken to the defender about a transfer this summer. "Yes, I spoke with Matthijs last week about his future.. and it's a secret."

What factor De Ligt must consider above everything is his playing time. "What I would tell all youngsters thinking about a move, the most important thing is to keep playing, to develop your game. Where you play is also important but that is something you choose alongside your family, your agent and those closest to you."
