Koeman furious with VAR despite Barcelona's 4-1 win over Huesca

The Barça coach could not believe the penalty given against his side on Monday

Ronald Koeman was furious with the role of the VAR in Barcelona's 4-1 win against Huesca on Monday.

Two goals from Lionel Messi helped Barca over the line in the end but things were briefly complicated when Huesca were awarded a penalty just before half time.

Rafa Mir converted from the spot after going down close to Marc-Andre ter Stegen having failed to connect with a cross.

Koeman argued with the officials at the break and carried on his complaining after the match at Camp Nou, which saw Barca move to within four points of Atletico Madrid.

"It's crazy because VAR have looked at it," Koeman told Movistar. "They were looking at it for five minutes. It is crazy.

"Marc's not touched the player. It cannot be a penalty. It's clearer than water. And it makes it 2-1 just before half time, it's not fair."

Later, in his press conference, he added: "I don't understand how it's given. I don't get it."

On the title race, Koeman said "I have always said there's a long way to go. We have reacted well, the team's confident to fight. We can't drop more points because we've dropped a lot."

Messi starred on the night he matched Xavi's 767 game appearance record for the club.

"There's nothing more to say on Messi," Koeman said. "The level he's been at over so many years, equalling Xavi and on Sunday he'll overtake him... he's the most important player in Barça's history and thank goodness he's with us."
