Koeman could sign Barcelona contract renewal based on objectives

The Dutch coach's future is still in the air but a decision must be made soon

The period of reflection over Ronald Koeman's future is coming to an end. With every day that passes, the chances of the Dutchman staying on as Barcelona coach grows and it would not be strange to see the club offer him a renewal conditioned by performances next season.

The Blaugrana want to reduce his salary, offering him a lower base wage and bonuses based on trophies won, something which is also being done with the new signings.

Talks with Koeman focused on what happened on the pitch this season but also on the future. The new board have clear ideas about how they want Barça to look moving forward and hope Koeman shares their plans. The planning for next season is well underway and Koeman's given the green light to an extensive list of signings the club are working on to change the design of the squad.

Barça have not hidden from Koeman that they're looking at other profiles of coach, but the club's financial situation is in Koeman's favour. However, he may have to adjust his contract to be objective-based, as was usual in the Johan Cruyff era at the club. In exchange, Barça would be willing to offer him an additional year if certain objectives are met.

The club know that if he continues, they have to strengthen his position. A lack of ratification of the coach would not be good going into the season. In principle, Koeman's happy with what's going and a final decision will be made soon. Koeman spent a few days in Holland but is now back in Barcelona for what could be a decisive week.
