The Dutch coach wasn't too negative after the draw with Valencia on Saturday

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman admitted his side were "irregular" after drawing 2-2 against Valencia at Camp Nou on Saturday.

"There were moments when we lacked control," he said. "We lost the ball and there was the danger of playing one against one in big spaces. For that reason, I played with three at the back in the second half to try and control the game.

"I don't think it was a step back in terms of attitude, but in terms of performance, yes. We were irregular throughout the game, we lose the ball in defence and I saw a team with doubts.

"The age of many of the players could be influential there due to a lack of experience. And that comes with time because young players have to mature."

Koeman also said he was worried that "at 2-1 the team didn't think about controlling the game and defending. That risk of playing comes with space in behind. We have to have the ball, but we lost it too much.

"This time we didn't miss many chances, either, because we didn't have that many."

Valencia took the lead through Diakhaby, who was unmarked from a corner, and Koeman added: "It can't be that he has a free header. We at least have to jump with him and defend set plays better."

Asked whether it dented Barça's hopes of winning the La Liga title, Koeman pointed out "there are still a lot of games to go. It's still not (lost.). It's complicated for all teams with the schedule. There are teams at the top that in two months could be at the bottom.

"The calendar is really tight for everyone and even more for the teams playing in Europe. The distance (to the top) is quite big but we have to fight hard and give our all to make up the points."
