Junior Firpo set for Barcelona stay as interest in left-back cools
Only a last minute surprise would change the situation now
Save any surprises, Junior Firpo will remain at Barcelona for another season. It's not that the player and the club have reached that decision, but the negotiations for the left-back to move have been frozen for several days. Both parties believe it's unlikely a deal will now materialise before the window shuts on Monday. If that's the case, Junior will remain as Jordi Alba's backup.
Throughout the summer, various teams have shown an interest in him. Inter, Napoli and Lazio all asked about the price and were all keen on doing a deal. However, the interest didn't go any further in the end. Several Spanish sides also contacted Barça about Junior, but they were looking for a loan, which was of no interest to the Catalans.
Given that, Junior is focused on working hard and taking advantage of his opportunities this season. Everyone starts from scratch under new coach Ronald Koeman, although Alba is still preferred. However, Junior wants to prove himself and regain the form he showed at Real Betis.
The club's alternative, if they could have sold Junior, would have been Juan Miranda. And if Junior does leave somehow, he will be with the first team.
