The president will resist the Argentine's escape move and talk to him about it

Despite Lionel Messi telling Barcelona he wants to go and won't change his mind, president Josep Maria Bartomeu will not throw in the towel. He dreams of convincing the Argentine to stay.

Bartomeu will speak to Messi about his choice. The president is clear: Messi has a contract for another year, Barca want him to stay and he will be a key player in Koeman's project. This is the mantra in three concepts that the club has repeated again and again since yesterday afternoon, although some parts of the board think a sale makes sense.

Bartomeu wants to make Messi understand that if he is the problem, then within four months the elections will begin and from the middle of March he can negotiate his exit with a new president or sign a renewal if he is happy. Bartomeu will do everything to stop him going.

Barca don't want to get into a legal battle with their best ever player, something Messi doesn't want either.
