Jordi Farre: Bartomeu must resign & spare club the process of referendum

"It's such an unanswerable number that the president should go"

Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Farre has told SPORT that current president Josep Maria Bartomeu should stand down immediately due to the looming vote of no confidence against him.

Farre's motion of censure against Bartomeu and the board through the campaign Mas que una Mocio obtained more than 20,000 signatures against the president.

Over 16,500 have now been verified by Barça, the threshold for holding a referendum on Bartomeu's future at the club. Farre says that is grounds to leave immediately.

"It's such an unanswerable number (of signatures) that the president and the entire board should resign immediately," he said.

"I would like them to spare the club the process of a referendum so the socios (members) don't have to travel to vote. He should resign immediately, as should the rest of the board of directors."

If he doesn't resign, a referendum will be held within 20 days. 66.6 percent of voting members would have to vote against Bartomeu for him to be removed and trigger elections.
