Jordi Alba is named 'The Catalan Sportsman of the Year'
The FC Barcelona player has been rewarded for his top tier displays throughout 2018
Yet more recognition for Jordi Alba. The defender from L'Hospitalet, one of Barça's best players this season and key to all of the club's recent triumphs, has received the award for the 'Millor Esportista Català de l'Any' (The Catalan Sportsman of the Year') organised by the UFEC (Unió de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya) and SPORT.
The defender came through the ranks at La Masia and helped the team win LaLiga and the Copa del Rey last season. Alba is an example of a hardworking sportsman and gives his all out on the pitch regardless of the competition or the match in question. His link up play with Leo Messi is one of the best partnerships in Barça's history. Alba was also part of Spain's first team at the World Cup in Russia. The jury of the 22nd Festa de l'Esport Català have recognised all of his work throughout the year and chosen him as the best sportsman.
The last Barça player to win the award was Gerard Pique in 2015. Before him Victor Valdes, Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernandez have taken home the prize.
