Jordi Alba follows Piqué's example by agreeing to wage cut

Jordi Alba is the second Barcelona captain to agree to a wage cut. Following the example set by Gerard Piqué, the experienced left back has agreed to a considerable reduction of his salary (believed to be around 25%), helping the club to mitigate its current financial difficulties. He has also agreed to defer part of the salary of his contract, which is due to expire in June 2024.

According to SPORT sources, Jordi Alba has always been willing to take a wage cut at the club, keen to demonstrate his commitment to the sporting project and his understanding of the club's current situation.

Barça remain in negotiations with the two other captains, Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto, about a similar deal. It is understood that an agreement will be reached soon, as both players have also indicated a willingness to do what is necessary for the club.

Jordi Alba was left frustrated by fans whistling him during last weekend's match against Real Sociedad, stating that he hadn't agreed to a wage cut yet because the club hadn't even asked him to.
