De Jong and Araujo join Sergi Roberto and Ter Stegen as Barcelona's captains

The Barcelona squad has chosen the four players who will represent the team next season as captains. The dressing room has voted during the tour of the United States and, a few hours before the first friendly against Juventus, decided who will wear the armband moving forward.

The departures of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba left two places vacant compared to last season, so the names of Sergi Roberto and Ter Stegen, who already held the position, seemed clear, as has been the case. Both will remain as captains for the 2023-24 season and, in fact, the midfielder will be the first captain and the goalkeeper, the second. 

They have now been joined by Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong, whose names had appeared in many pools. However, they were not the only ones, as Pedri, Lewandowski and even Dembélé were also in the running for the armband. The order of the captains is as follows: Sergi Roberto, Ter Stegen, Araujo and De Jong.

Sergi Roberto takes over the Barça captaincy after two seasons as third captain of the first team. Since Leo Messi's departure in 2021, Barça's '20' had been third in the list, behind Sergio Busquets and Gerard Piqué.
