Joan Laporta: Whatever happens, Ronald Koeman will stay

The president has backed the coach despite the situation and the rumours

Against all prognostics and although Ronald Koeman seemed more out than in at Barcelona, Joan Laporta has announced that he will not be sacked after the Atletico Madrid game, whatever happens.

Heading to the directors' lunch in Madrid, leaving his hotel, the president was asked about Koeman’s fate.

“Koeman will stay as coach of the team independently of the result,” said Laporta. “He will stay. He deserves a margin of confidence regardless of today’s result. He loves Barça, he’s a reference point. It’s worth a lot that he took over at Barca at a point of maximum difficulty. After speaking to him I see he believes in this team, especially when we start to get the injured players back.”
