Joan Laporta: We are close to reaching an agreement with Gavi
The young midfielder is one of world football's finest prospects for his tender age
Barcelona president Joan Laporta says Gavi’s contract renewal is close. “We are close to reaching an agreement with Gavi,” he explained during a meeting with the Asturias and Cantabria fan clubs.
The midfielder has not yet put pen to paper on a new deal to replace his current contract which expires in 2023.
“We are optimistic,” continued Laporta. “We want Gavi to stay. The player and his agent want it too.”
Barcelona’s chief also spoke about other topics, although did not want to go into detail on Robert Lewandowski. “We will not talk about players because it would be a lack of respect to Bayern.”
On Ousmane Dembele, whose deal is up at the end of June, he said: “Dembele has our offer on the table but he has not accepted it, we don’t have an answer from him.”
