Manchester United were willing to offer him a bumper contract but the Croatian would prefer a move to Paris or Milan

Manchester United's terrible start to the season has forced them to begin identifying targets for January already. One of the names at the top of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's list is none other than Ivan Rakitic. The Barcelona midfielder is clearly a backup option at the Camp Nou and many sides across Europe would love to add his quality and experience to their squads.

However, according to the 'Daily Mail', United have been met with a firm 'no' in the pursuit of Rakitic. The Croatian's family don't want to move to Manchester, despite the riches on offer, and would instead prefer a move to either Paris or Milan.

It's unclear whether PSG or Inter would be willing to make an offer for Rakitic in the winter transfer window. But it seems, at least for now, that the midfielder's future won't involve a switch to the Premier League.
