Imminent decision for Pjanic's future: Sacked or Nico goes out on loan

The club have to decide what to do with the Bosnian midfielder who has impressed in pre-season

Miralem Pjanic’s future will be decided in the coming hours. Barcelona have told him their decision, and anything could happen despite the fact a few weeks ago he seemed certain to leave the club. Xavi thinks he is a footballer that Barcelona could use this season, although the club need to free up shirt numbers and clear some salary, but the final decision will be based on supporting criteria.

There are two solutions: If Pjanic stays he’ll have to lower his salary, but then La Masia product Nico will have to look for a loan elsewhere, but if the club decides he does not have a place they will rescind his contract this week to allow him to leave a new destination. Whatever happens it will be done soon.

Pjanic’s explosion into Xavi‘s thoughts in preseason was surprising. Nobody doubted that he had quality but his performances surprised everybody. With the new signings Pjanic shone in preseason and Xavi thinks he’s one of the few players that could play without problems in front of the defence.

They like his first touch play, how he speeds up the team, and his tactical nous. From there the club will have to decide what happens and whether it’s better to let Nico go out on loan to get minutes or if he will be part of the squad this season.

Pjanic wants to stay because he’s convinced he can succeed at Barça and he’s willing to make every effort possible. He lowered his salary last season, doing the club a tremendous favour and showing his professionalism. His loan spell at Besiktas was not particularly successful, but now there is a chance to stay at Barcelona, Pjanic thinks that it could be great. However if he does not end up staying he will not cause problems and will leave without fuss because he has other good offers and will find a team quickly.

In Italy there are four clubs interested in him. They are Juventus, Roma, Napoli, and Inter Milan. The most likely thing is that he ends back at Juventus, where he had great success in midfield.
