Huge surprise among Barça TV staff as Catalan club axe channel

| FC BARCELONA

Some employees learned through the media they will be losing their jobs

FC Barcelona announced Thursday that they are closing Barça TV, whose contract expires on 30 June and whose future, as of today, is up in the air because nobody knows exactly what will happen to the 120 workers who form part of this television station.

It runs at a cost of around €8 million a year, paid by the club to Telefónica, the owner of the company, which has undergone many changes of hands in recent years, but has always maintained the fact that it is the club's official television station.

The employees were very surprised because, despite many reports that they had been informed of the decision by the club, many of them found out on Thursday through the media. No one had told them anything at all about the closure of the television station where, in some cases, they have been working for more than two decades.

In fact, a few weeks ago the bulk of their workers asked for better salaries and at no time was there any hint that not only would there be no improvements, but that they would all end up out of work as of 30 June.
