How Spotify deal could revolutionise the Barcelona shirt in 2022-23

Barça could explore some interesting options with regards to the agreement

Barcelona confirmed Spotify as their new official shirt sponsor on Tuesday in a four-year deal. The agreement improves the club's financial position as they continue to clean up their accounts and should help them with planning for next season.

The deal includes sponsorship of the men's and women's shirts, the training kit and the title rights to Camp Nou -- or Spotify Camp Nou.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the statement confirming the agreement has gone unnoticed so far. And it has a lot to do with the image Barça used to announce the agreement with the music streaming company, in which Barça players Alexia, Pique and Pedri appear, but also music artists such as Justin Bieber Shakira and The Weeknd.

In the statement, Barça said: "Spotify and FC Barcelona will be working together to create opportunities for the iconic shirt to become a space that can celebrate artists from across the world."

What do they want to say with that? That beyond the name Spotify appearing on the front of the shirt, there could also appear -- or even replace -- the name of various artists to help them promote a new song or a new album? Something similar was done by Atletico Madrid between 2003 and 2005, when their shirt served as a 'poster' to promote films produced by Columbia Pictures like 'Spiderman 2', 'Big Fish' and 'Hell Boy'.

We will see if the Barça-Sportify agreement explores something similar. For now, the first artists linked with the agreement -- graphically -- are The Weeknd, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Sebastián Yatra, the Brazilian Ludmilla and Indian singers Darshan Raval and Jonita Gandhi... but there could be many more.

For example, the image with this news shows Shakira or The Weeknd as a possible sponsor. Would it work? Without a doubt, it would be an interesting business idea.
