How Ronald Koeman's Barcelona squad looks for the 20-21 season

Barça made five signings and managed to move on a number of players

The transfer window closed on Monday without Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman getting any of the players, save Sergiño Dest, he wanted. Eric García, Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay were all target but financial limitations meant Barça could not sign any of them in the end.

After the crisis generated by Lionel Messi's attempted departure, Barça managed to shift a number of players, with Rafinha and Todibo going on deadline day. Arthur Melo, Nelson Semedo, Rakitic, Wagué, Arturo Vidal and Luis Suárez, in addition to Arda Turan, Carles Pérez and Cucurella, had already left the club.

Miralem Pjanic, Francisco Trincao, Dest, Matheus Fernandes, Pedri were all signed, while Coutinho and Aleña returned from loan moves.

Koeman pushed until the final day for a new centre-back and a striker, having already given up on Wijnaldum, but Barça were unable to sign any more players.

Injury probelms for Samuel Umtiti mean Barça are left short in defence, with Umtiti and Araujo the only back up for Pique and Lenglet. However, there's more depth at full-back, with Sergi Roberto and Dest on the right and Alba and Junior on the left. Dest can also play on the left.

Busquets, De Jong and Pjanic will be the main occupants of the two midfield roles, with Riqui Puig and Aleña also options, while Philippe Coutinho is the No.10 at the moment. January signing Matheus is unlikely to get minutes despite staying.

There's a lot of competition in attack. Coutinho, Messi, Griezmann and Ansu has been Koeman's first choice front four so far, but Pedri, Trincao and Dembele have also featured. There's alsoo Martin Braithwaite, while Puig and Aleña could also play further forward.

However, there's no real outright striker and that's why Koeman wanted Memphis Depay. A deal was in place but it was dependent on Ousmane Dembele's move to Manchester United, which never happened.
