Ivan Rakitic has opened the door to leaving Barcelona in January. His lack of minutes under Ernesto Valverde this season (187) is obvious. The Croatian is a victim of a restructuring of the midfield, with Arthur and Frenkie de Jong stepping forward.
Rakitic's comments to the press this week in Croatia were significant. He recognised "there's no better place to play than Barcelona, the best club in the world, but I need to play, not just enjoy the city and the beach." He added: "If nothing changes, then we will have to sit down and speak about my situation."
He could have left last summer. He confirmed he had offers last summer, including from Juventus, but an agreement wasn't reached between the clubs. How much is he worth? Where could he go?
According to Transfermarkt, his worth these days is around 35 million euros, short of the 70 million he was valued at in 2018. A lack of minutes, as well as the passing of years, has reduced his price.
Despite his price dropping, Rakitic is still valued around Europe. He confirmed Juve's interest but PSG have also been in the running in the past.
Italy looks his best option. At 31, he has also been linked with Milan and Inter. In the Premier League, crisis clubs Tottenham and Manchester United could also be options.
