The club have taken action to try and get their finances under control

Barcelona have managed a huge salary cut over the past six months, from Lionel Messi departing to Samuel Umtiti’s contract renewal. Seven big salaries have evaporated or been reduced. Mateu Alemany has been in charge of the negotiations and they have gone well, helping to register Ferran Torres this week.

The summer signings came for free - Memphis, Aguero, Eric Garcia, or were loaned - Luuk de Jong. Barcelona have also renewed Pedri and Ansu Fati’s contracts.

Messi’s departure to PSG came first, painfully, followed by Antoine Griezmann going to Atletico, who pay his 21m euro salary.

Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba have agreed pay cuts, while Sergi Roberto is yet to sign a new deal.

Philippe Coutinho has agreed a pay cut with Barcelona loaning him to Aston Villa too, who pay 65 per cent of the deal. Umtiti has taken a10 per cent cut and has his salary spread out across 4.5 years instead of 1.5.

Aguero surrendered the last year of his contract as he had to retire and next up will be renewals for Gavi and Ronald Araujo.
