Hleb: Deco and Ronaldinho turned up drunk to training
The former Barca player revealed why the club sold the two playmakers
One of the worst signings in Barcelona history was Alexander Hleb from Arsenal in 2008. The Belorussian arrived at Pep Guardiola’s request for 15m euros plus two more in variables and only played the 2008-09 season at the club, before going on loan to Stuttgart, Birmingham and Wolfsburg respectively.
However he is still having an impact on Barcelona. At 38, playing for Bate Borisov, Help fired a couple bullets at some ex-Barca players.
“Ronaldinho and Deco turned up drunk to train,” said Hleb. “You know why Barca sold them in 2008? Because they were afraid they would ruin Messi.”
Curiously former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny accused Hleb of himself liking the booze: “He could have achieved more in football, he had a great career ahead of him but he liked to drink,” said the Pole.
