Here is PSG's strategy as they look to sell Neymar

PSG, like many clubs this summer, are entering a period of reconstruction across their sporting department. The latest name to be put on the 'transferable' list is the man he paid €222m for a little under two years ago: Neymar. Whilst some might feel this was a 'heat of the moment' outburst from the president, it's in fact a strategy by the club to bring in the maximum amount possible for the wantaway Brazilian.

That's because aside from asking for a whopping €300m, they don't want to be seen as weak in the eyes of the football community.

NO ALTERNATIVES

The image of the club across Europe hit rock bottom last March when they suffered a last-minute loss to Manchester United. PSG, after investing 1,149m euros into the club, only had one objective: win the Champions League. Once again, they failed.

The only way for Neymar and PSG to coexist would have been to lift the Champions League title. However, the Brazilian has suffered injuries at crucial times in both his seasons at the club. Winning Ligue 1 and domestic cup competitions isn't enough anymore.

ALL HANDS ON DECK

Neymar and Al Khelaifi are both aware the magic has gone in their relationship; The Brazilian has made sure to let everyone know in Paris that he wants to go back to Barça.

PSG's president has been more outspoken and gave an interview to 'France Football' where he took aim at his superstar forward about his attitude and lack of dedication to the project. "No one forced him to come here."

Afterwards, in 'L'Équipe', they spoke about expecting 'XXL offers' for Neymar if he was to leave the club. And now 'Le Parisien' say the asking price is fixed at €300m.

LONG WAY TO GO IN THE MARKET

Nasser Al Khelaïfi is aware no one is going to offer that amount. Not just because it's so high but because they, more than most, know how important it is not to fall foul of the Financial Fair Play regulations. But nor does he want to see Neymar allow take advantage of a clause in his contract which allows him to leave for €220m in 2020. With injury ruling him out of the Copa America, an ongoing rape case and past comments from his teammates, Neymar is desperate to move now.

Everyone is aware the transfer window opens on the 30th June and won't close until the end of August. That means we've got a lot more weeks of speculation, hints and meetings to go yet. The strategy to move Neymar on is already underway though.
