Barcelona turned 121 years old on Sunday and celebrated with a 4-0 win against Osasuna at Camp Nou in La Liga.

The Catalan club was founded on Nov. 29, 1899 by the Swissman Hans Gamper and has since grown into one of the biggest, most respected sports clubs in the world.

On Oct. 22, 1899, on page 968 of the weekly Los Deportes newspaper, in the miscellaneous section, the following note appeared: "Our friend and colleague Mr. Kans Kamper [sic], from the Foot-Vall Section [sic] of the "Sociedad Los Deportes" and former Swiss champion, is eager to organise some matches in Barcelona, he begs all those who feel fond of the aforementioned sport to get in touch with him, urging them to go through this office on Tuesdays and Friday nights between 9 and 11."

The next piece of news that was released through the same weekly was dated Dec. 3, 1899 and it was reported that "on Wednesday [November 29] of this week a sports group was established in this city that will have the title (Football Club Barcelona), thanks to the work that our friends, the well-known enthusiasts G. Wild and Hans Gamper, have been practicing in this regard. The Board of Directors is made up of Mr. Wild, president, Mr. Luis de Ossó and Serra, secretary; Mr. Hans Gamper, captain, and treasurer, Mr. Bartolomé Terradas y Brutau."

The rest, as they say, is history, and Barça have gone on to become one of the biggest football clubs in the world, winning numerous domestic titles and five Champions League trophies.

Happy Birthday, Barcelona!
