Griezmann's stance regarding possible swap deal

Griezmann would like to return to his former club, but he is also open to staying at the Camp Nou

Antoine Griezmann is awaiting news as Barça and Atlético continue to thrash out negotiations for a complicated transfer that would see the France international return to the Wanda Metropolitano. His only way of rejoining Atléti would be via a swap deal, but it is proving difficult to find a solution that would satisfy all parties. The transfer is certainly not as close as recent reports might suggest.

Griezmann has told the club that he would like to return to Atlético de Madrid, winners of last season's LaLiga title. The French international also knows that he would fit in well in Diego Simeone's system. From a sporting perspective, he has no qualms whatsoever about returning to his former club.

Barça and Atlético are not currently close to reaching a financial agreement. Barcelona are asking for Atlético to include players in the deal, bringing the total value of the operation closer to the true market value of the French forward. They are simultaneously looking to reduce their wage bill, which will be difficult with the potential arrivals of Saúl in addition to either Lodi or Hermoso.

While he would like to move to Atlético, Griezmann remains open to continuing at Barça. He performed well last season, registering 20 goals and 13 assists, and is understood to have a good relationship with Ronald Koeman. He is due to return to the Joan Gamper Training Ground on Tuesday 20 July.
