Goalscorer Aleña says Barcelona "deserve" to be crowned La Liga champions

Aleña would prefer to wrap things up on Saturday in front of his own fans

Goalscorer Carles Aleña was a happy man after Barcelona's 2-0 win against Alaves. And with good reason. The academy graduate started the game and opened the scoring in the second half as the Catalans edged closer to the La Liga title.

Barça could be crowned champions on Wednesday if Atletico Madrid lose to Valencia at home. If Atletico draw or not, Ernesto Valverde's side will win the league by beating Levante at Camp Nou on Saturday.

"We deserve to be champions because we've been the best side throughout the whole season," Aleña said. "I would like to win La Liga on Saturday, depending on oursleves and celebrating with our fans."

Aleña may have opened the scoring but it came after good work from Sergi Roberto and a streetwise dummy from Luis Suarez, who added Barça's second from the penalty spot.

"It was a great play by Sergi Roberto, which Luis left perfectly for me," Aleña added. "I'm happy to have been able to help the team pick up three important points, but the goal was thanks to Luis Suarez. He's a crack, the best No.9 in the world. He saw my run and left [the ball] for me to score."

The midfielder also revealed that Valverde told him to "get forward and support the forwards and break into the space."
