Pique spoke about the former president and his lack of leadership at times

Gerard Pique fired shots at former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu in an interview with Post United.

The Spanish defender, out injured for now, recently returned to training. Asked about player power, he said: “If in some moments we have taken control it’s because they asked us. Because those who have to take decisions did not do so and delegated them. In the end, the players are there to play football. The less they decide, the better.

“I think that players don’t rule. They can give their opinion and after that, decisions can go one way or another. When you have a board and a president who are very strong, they have their ideas and want to go one way, the player has little to decide.”

On Luis Suarez leaving, he said: “You have to ask those who let him go. That’s not my fault.”

He also spoke about refereeing going Real Madrid’s way.

“The other day a former ref said that 85 per cent of referees are Madrid fans. How are they not going to blow in favour of Madrid? Even if it’s unconsciously, how can they not blow more one way than the other. I respect the professionality of refs and I know they try to do the best job possible, but when a moment of doubt arrives…”
