Gavi reiterates to coach Xavi that he has no desire to leave Barcelona

The midfielder's contract situation has sparked rumours... but that is all they are

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk about Gavi's future. Some reports even pointed to an approach to Chelsea. The midfielder's situation, who, if he cannot be registered in June, will be free to leave Barcelona, has caused several clubs to keep an eye on him.

Xavi, however, is not worried about the player's future. That is because he spoke privately with Gavi to know first hand what he thinks.

The coach wanted to reassure the player and also find out how he is experiencing the uncertainty surrounding his contractual situation. Xavi found Gavi categorical about his future: his intention is to stay at Barça for many years. The player explained that he is very satisfied with his role in the team and his only concern is that his situation is sorted out.

Xavi's faith

Xavi, meanwhile, relayed to Gavi that he is an essential part of Barça's present and future. The coach expressed himself in similar terms to when he has done so publicly when asked about the registration situation. He told Gavi that he will not be better off anywhere else and that he cannot imagine a midfield without him.

It should be remembered that it was precisely Xavi who gave him the status of starter this season. The use of four midfielders in many games has meant that Gavi has played so many games as a starter. On top of that, injuries to Pedri and De Jong have forced Xavi to give little rest to the player from Los Palacios.

Gavi was back in the starting XI against Atlético and came very close to scoring. The midfielder had two clear chances that he failed to convert.

This is one of the things that the coach is asking of him: to improve his goalscoring numbers and to be more decisive in the last pass. This is also where the midfielder's room for improvement lies and he is destined to make his mark on Barça's midfield.
