The duo need new contracts with both up in 2023 and Barcelona are making progress

Good news is coming for Barcelona fans. Mateu Alemany and the sporting department are getting close to the renewals of Ronald Araujo and Gavi. They hope both will be sealed in March, possibly after the Clasico against Real Madrid on the 20th.

Gavi who has burst into the first team and won’t be 18 until August, is a key player now and has also made his Spain debut.

His contract is still a youth deal and needs to be greatly raised, along with his release clause. He earns little more than 100,000 euros a year and his clause is 50m euros at present.

The club and his agent Ivan de la Pena are not close yet on the figure but there is maximum optimism that a deal will be reached. “Between the renewal of a player who just came up to the first team and that of a player who is already an important player, there can be a middle point. And we’re working on it,” say the club.

Gavi’s deal will be for five years although they are studying how to do that for a player who is still underage. His release clause, like that of Pedri, Ansu and Ferran Torres, will be 1 billion euros.

Ronald Araujo’s will be the same. The club want to do that to all their young players. There is now optimism over a deal with him that there was not at the start because of all the links with England. However now the club and Araujo’s agent are close to an agreement, with the player keen to stay. The Uruguayan does not forget that Barcelona bet on him and he is grateful.
