The Italian coach is set to take over at Mestalla and is keen on Puig

Revolution at Valencia. Owner Peter Lim, after sacking president Anil Murthy for his leaked audios in Superdeporte, has turned his attention to the sporting project. Assessed by Jorge Mendes, Valencia are set to appoint Gennaro Gattuso as their new coach on a two-year deal.

Lim wants to give the team a push and feels the arrival of Gattuso can reinvigorate the club. Gattuso is already discussing the remodelling of the squad that needs to be undertaken and one of his priorities to bring in the Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig next season.

Valencia and Lim have an excellent relationship with Barça through Mendes' mediation. In fact, a few weeks ago it was president Murthy who met with Barça chief Joan Laporta to explore possible deals this summer. Lots of names came up, including Valencia duo Jose Luis Gaya and Carlos Soler, but one of the petitions from Los Che was for Puig and Martin Braithwaite.

With the arrival of Gattuso, that interest in Puig will increase.

Riqui Puig has already talked with Xavi and knows he won't play often next season. He has never wanted to leave until now but various teams want him and Valencia is an attractive option. They are a big club despite the internal problems they have had in recent months.
