García Pimienta on Nico Gonzalez: "He is the ideal pivot for Barça"

Pimienta coached Nico during his tenure as coach of Barça B

Following the departure of Sergio Busquets, Barcelona are already looking for a replacement to fill the midfield position.

Nico González is one of the possible candidates to take the job. Given this possibility, García Pimienta has described the pivot as the "ideal person" for the role.

The former coach of the Barça reserve team between 2018 and 2021 stated on Cadena SER's 'Que t'hi jugues' programme that Nico González is the "ideal player to be a pivot at Barça," a position that will need to be reinforced during the transfer window and which will be a priority for the club.

The coach and player coincided in the reserve team, where Pimienta claims that he convinced the player to adopt a more defensive mentality if he wanted to have a future at can Barça.

"He is 1.88m tall, strong, wins duels, doesn't lose position and gives a lot of continuity to the game with his vertical runs," added the now Las Palmas coach about Nico's physical and technical qualities.

The Galician midfielder made his debut last season with the first team and went out on loan in the summer to Valencia CF, where he has played 25 games this season and has had a secondary role from the bench.

Nico's last game for Valencia CF will be a do-or-die game for the club's Primera Division aspirations. The team visits the Benito Villamarín to face Real Betis, just two points above the relegation zone, but dependent on themselves to secure safety.

Once the season is over, Barça's board of directors will study the player's situation with all options open, and a transfer is not ruled out if a good offer arrives.
