The midfielder is improving and finding his place in Xavi's system

Frenkie de Jong has got his smile back. The Dutch midfielder has been inconsistent this season bit he's recovering his form and wants to be part of Barcelona's sporting project long-term. He has big offers from elsewhere but he wants to succeed at Camp Nou and will not listen to proposals from anyone this summer. He wants to stay put and keep improving. He knows there is increased competition in midfield but he's a regular under Xavi Hernandez and is re-finding himself on the pitch.

De Jong struggled with Ronald Koeman's exit. The Dutch coach helped him find his best form, freeing him to be important in attack as well. He does not feel comfortable as a fixed interior as he likes to dribble through the lines and, under Xavi, he looked lost in some games. It's for that reason that rumours emerged about his future, with links drawn to Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Barça have always supported De Jong, convinced he can play a vital role in the club's future, but there are also voiced inside the club that have been in favour of listening to offers for him if his performances did not improve. Barça could make a lot of money on him in the summer, perhaps more than most players at the club. Also because Barça have good midfielders coming through in Gavi and Nico. Despite that, De Jong's recovered his place in Xavi's team and looks free again. He's improving and is happy in Barcelona. His idea is to stay because he sees a big future at Camp Nou.

De Jong's contract runs until 2026 and he has a 400 million euro release clause. Barça paid 75 million for him in 2019. Let's see what happens at the end of the season but De Jong clearly wants to stay and Barça, now, want him to stay as well save a huge offer arriving.
