Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes to return to the club... again

Valdes will be tasked with helping bring through the next generation of goalkeepers

Victor Valdes will return to Barcelona. The legendary goalkeeper has accepted Joan Laporta's offer to join the club's methodology department and to help with the development of young goalkeepers.

During the electoral campaign, Valdes associated himself with Laporta. He was present at a number of events and it appeared evident that, if Laporta was elected as president, Valdes would come with him. And that's the case.

At first, Valdes wasn't sure about Barça's offer as his desire was to return to coaching one of the youth teams, but that option wasn't contemplated by the new board.

Remember that in 2019 Valdes took over the Juvenil A (U19s) side but after just months in the job, following a number of disagreements, he was let go by academy director Patrick Kluivert, who will not continue in that role under Laporta beyond the summer.

Following a period of reflection, Valdes has accepted Laporta's original offer and the plan is for him to join the methodology department officially in June, although he could start sooner to get to grips with the role.

Valdes, who came through La Masia before spending years in the first team, will be a key figure behind the scenes at the club for the goalkeepers coming through.
