Five games without a win marks Barça's worst run in Champions League
Juventus, PSG twice, Bayern Munich and now Benfica... it doesn't look good
The situation is unsustainable. The numbers reveal the worst Barcelona in the history of the Champions League. The hammering in Lisbon (one year after they lost at the same stadium 8-2 to Bayern Munich) against Benfica reminded of other European failures: Liverpool, Rome, Lisbon. Again in Lisbon. This time against a team tactically inferior and in the group phase.
In total, Barça are without a win in five European games. It's the worst ever run in a competition they have been a reference in for the last 15 years. But times change. And for the worst in Barça's case. Juventus (0-3), Paris Saint-Germain (1-4 and 1-1), Bayern Munich (0-3) and now Benfica (3-0). Terrible.
To go further, Mr Chip says 140 teams have started the Champions League by losing their first two group games. Onlt two have gone on to reach the next phase. The future is very dark.
