| sport

Barça have confirmed that the Canary Islander has suffered an injury to his right thigh(hamstring)

The injury blow for Barça is officially confirmed. The first scans had already warned that the Canary Islander's injury could affect Xavi Hernandez's team selection and this will be the case for at least three weeks.

The injury forced him to leave the field of play in the 40th minute of the Europa League match at Camp Nou, replaced by Sergi Roberto. The club has revealed the full extent of the injury.

Official medical statement

"FC Barcelona's Pedri has injured the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh (hamstring). Following tests on Friday morning, the damage has been confirmed and he will be unavailable for selection until his leg has recovered.".

This leaves him out of next week's playoff second leg against Manchester United at Old Trafford and also for the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Real Madrid.

Playing at his best

Pedri was not only shining in controlling the Barça midfield, but he had also been getting increasingly involved in the attack, contributing to a lot of game-winning goals for Barça in the league recently.

So, for next week's all-important game against the Red Devils, Xavi Hernández will not be able to count on his dynamic duo of Pedri and Gavi, with the latter serving a yellow card suspension.
