FC Barcelona offer Dest-Meunier swap deal to Borussia Dortmund

Barça, finding it hard to match the demanded price, are negotiating with Borussia Dortmund to exchange their respective full-backs.

FC Barcelona's sporting management is hard at work to satisfy all of Xavi's requests. They have been looking for a right-back throughout the window, running into issues with each of their targets.

After Azpilicueta was ruled out, and the club have a few alternatives on the table. And one that they like a lot is Thomas Meunier, from Borussia Dortmund.

The Germans were reluctant to negotiate because they believe they would have no time to find a replacement, and were asking 15 million euros for him, an amount Barça found excessive. But Barça may have found a solution by negotiating with Borussia a direct exchange of full-backs; Dest would go to Dortmund and Meunier to Barcelona.

It remains to be seen if this offer convinces the Germans and whether they like the American full-back.

Xavi believes that Meunier would be a great addition to the team because he has similar characteristics to Azpilicueta. He is a reliable, powerful defender with Champions League experience.

In January, Jordi Cruyff contacted Meunier to invite him to Barça. However, the player himself had explained that Dortmund closed the door on him because the offer presented by Barça was insufficient.

Apart from Meunier, Barça have asked Héctor Bellerín to wait until the end of the market as they could go for him if the operations they have underway fail.

Villarreal's Foyth is also a likely choice, and Emery himself has acknowledged that there is "real" interest from Barcelona, but Villarreal are, for now, asking 42 million euros.
