Manchester United and Chelsea both want to sign the left-back

Jordi Alba’s fine season did not go unnoticed in the Premier League. SPORT have learned that Manchester United and Chelsea both want to sign the Barcelona left-back.

Alba has a good reputation in English football due to his capacity to get up and down the flank, his ability to create goals and his work rate in defence.

United and Chelsea are long-time admirers but their interest has increased this season following Alba’s attacking improvement — he set up 11 goals, eight for Lionel Messi.

Alba told SPORT a few weeks ago that he would like to end his career at Barcelona but the Catalan club, his agent told SPORT this week, have not yet offered him new terms.

The Spain international has two years left on his deal but it’s been more than a year since the club promised him a renewal.

Chelsea’s current left wing back is Marcos Alonso, while United settled on Ashley Young despite the money the club previously spent on Luke Shaw.
